Obituary

Mary Kay (Mokrohisky) Henningsen, 75, of Omaha, passed away July 19th, 2022.

Mary Kay was born on September 24, 1946 in Green Bay, Wisconsin in a family of five. She followed her father into the medical field, where she went to Creighton University and studied nursing. She spent her career in nursing, working at St. Josephs, the Omaha VA, and Benson High School.

Mary Kay enjoyed needlepoint, baking, boxed wine, reading, going out to shows, concerts, and playing bunko with friends. She also enjoyed traveling, including visiting family in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

She was most excited when she was a grandma! When they were young, she loved taking Henry and Michael on excursions to the Omaha Children's Museum, Chuck E. Cheese, the Omaha Zoo, and hotel overnights with friends. They would blast music in her convertible and dance. She also became a loving dog grandma when Violet the goldendoodle joined the family!

She had a very giving heart, volunteering at the Assistance League and showering loved ones with affection and gifts.

Mary Kay lived with cancer for many years, with many ups and downs, remissions and relapses. She battled with grace until the very end. She passed peacefully on her terms surrounded by family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Mary Mokrohisky; and brother, Steven Mokrohisky.

Mary Kay is survived by her daughter, Tracy Stamps and husband Alex; grandchildren, Henry and Michael Stamps; siblings, Tom Mokrohisky and wife Brenda of Denver, Colorado; Susie Conway and husband Bill of Birmingham, Michigan; Jane Zachman and husband Craig of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

There will be a public memorial service and interment on Thursday, July 28th at 10am at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mary Kay may be made to the Assistance League of Omaha or The Salvation Army of Omaha.
