Chertong Yia Lo, age 102, daughter of Chong Neng Yang and Mai Lee, was born on January 20, 1918 in the city of Monnaie, Laos. She passed away on May 4, 2020 in Omaha, Nebraska. Chertong Lo was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who immigrated from Laos as a refugee of the United States of America after the Vietnam War. Her family consisted of 6 sisters and 8 brothers. Chertong grew up without her parents and focused on working hard on the farms with her siblings so people would respect them. After migrating to the United States, Chertong spent the rest of her life focusing on the future success of her grandchildren. She was a dedicated mother who raised all of her grandchildren while their parents went to work. Her unconditional love and support towards her family is what paved the way for the success of her children and grandchildren's future. Chertong always emphasized the correlation between obtaining an education and future success. Her family has completed: 1) 12 bachelor degrees, 2) 6 master degrees, and 3) 2 doctorate degrees. Chertong also raised the first Hmong American City Councilman, as the late Lormong Lo held the responsibilities as the City Councilman of District 1 in Omaha, NE for two terms. Chertong always enjoyed telling stories to her grandchildren to constantly remind them of the hardships and lessons in life. She was also embraced by the Hmong community as a person who always showed care, love, and compassion towards all people. Most people will remember her kindness, as she always greeted and escorted people with her sweet words, while waving goodbye. Chertong is survived by her children: Doua Lo and Mee Lo, along with 30 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She will truly be missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The viewing will be held from 8:00 am to 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
May fond memories and God’s loving words carry you through and beyond this difficult time of mourning. Isaiah 57:15
